Clean/Renewable Energy
- Switched to renewable electricity contracts September 2019 removing 3000 tonnes of carbon from the atmosphere per year
Energy Efficiency
- Stadium pitch matchday lighting fully LED
- Other parts of the stadium and training ground being built or converted to LED. Currently at approximately 70% LED coverage (December 2019)
Sustainable Transport
- Train, London underground and overground advocated above driving
- There is no parking available for fans at the ground and street parking is restricted for local residents with match day permits
Single Use Plastic Reduction/Removal
- Stadium wide reusable cup launched 2nd Nov 2019 removing 60’000 single use cup per typical season
- Wooden knives and forks provided
- Signs advertising the new bins are Green Certified, meaning they are PVC free and made with solvent free adhesive
Waste Management
- Recycling accounts for 60% of all waste produced. Recycling of Cardboard, Mixed plastic, Food, Grass, Glass
- All offices now have recycling stations
- Zero waste to landfill. Other non-recyclable waste goes for incineration producing power for homes & businesses
Water Use
- Monitored and balanced use of borehole water at training ground
Plant based/low carbon food
- At the Stadium, vegan options available at kiosks: Jackfruit Masala and Keralan Pasty
- Various vegan options available in hospitality areas
- At training ground, vegan options available to vegan and non-vegan players & staff
Communication/Engagement
- Communication via social channels of new environmental and sustainability initiatives
- Environmental & sustainability web page now under construction (December 2019)
Additional Information
- Watford FC is subscribing to Cool Earth Scheme protecting Peruvian rainforest to the equivalent Square footage of our operating area which is 1.18 million sq. ft (TG 0.68 million + Stadium 0.5 million)
- Club Spokesman comment from November 2019: “Watford FC is pleased with the initial progress it is making in its efforts to act in a more environmentally-sensitive way at its stadium, training ground and satellite hubs. The recent match day introduction of reusable plastic cups was warmly received by supporters, and we’ll be continuing to take similarly steps by working closely with a number of key third-party suppliers who are equally committed to positive actions.”
