The club's own sustainability strategy is communicated as a sub-strategy of the corporate strategy. In the 2021/22 season, VfL Wolfsburg revised its environmental guidelines and formulated its own environmental policy. VfL Wolfsburg is a signatory to United Nations "Sports for Climate Action" and "Race to Zero”. Net-Zero target by 2025 and reduction path oriented to the Science Based Targets. In 2020, VfL Wolfsburg attained the Gold level award in the sustainClub sustainability label.
All sites use 100% green energy. 100% renewable energy supplier since 2011 - saving 3600 t CO2e/year as well as solar PV power generation on site, CHP plant available + district heating. In summer 2023, new PV systems are planned for the new "weight room" building (completion 2023), the VfL Center and the AOK stadium.
An Environmental Compliance Management System (ECMS) helps to define targets. Central building energy control installed in 2002 (heating, ventilation, cooling, lighting). Monitoring via energy software since 2019, which uses digital meters to record/break down consumption levels. Expansion of monitoring by installing more metering in areas for electricity and heat. To date, 65% of lights are LED.
Single match ticket holders can travel free of charge on WVG (Wolfsburger Verkehrsgesellschaft) buses from three hours before kick-off until three hours after full-time. VfL provides its employees with subsidised job tickets issued by Deutsche Bahn. VfL conducted a mobility analysis in 2016, and further mobility and residence analyses were conducted in 2021 and January 2023. The club has used the study results to develop a mobility plan and define some targeted measures. In consultation with the team management, the issue of sustainability is taken into account when deciding on player travel.
Reusable cups for cold/hot beverages are used at the Volkswagen Arena and AOK Stadium and are collected and reused in a separate waste stream. The VfL online store has replaced plastic filler with 100% recycled paper for its mail-order items since February 2020. Microplastic waste reduction policy: Installation of microplastic filters on the pitches and in the professional team's washing machines and dryers.
No waste to landfill. Within VfL’s ECMS, the goal is to conserve resources and manage resources responsibly. Catering services offered must now meet specifications covering aspects such as waste management. The integration of a waste management system into VfL’s ECMS aims to increase the recycling rate and reduce residual waste.
VfL’s ECMS identifies potential for water reduction in the stadium and other locations in the club. VfL Wolfsburg installs/ implements new sustainable and resource-saving technologies in new buildings from the very beginning, for example at the academy. Water-saving and automatic taps have been installed in the stadium, saving around 800 cubic meters of drinking water annually. Toilets at the academy use rainwater. Waterless urinals in the public catering area. VfL Wolfsburg irrigates its football pitches with water from the nearby canal.
Vegan/vegetarian options are available at all club locations. Food is sourced from the region as often as possible. In the academy, 60% of food is organic or regional. In the professional area: 85% of the food comes from regional sources and about 80% is organic.
After discussing the measures proposed in the Agentur auf! study at length with the City of Wolfsburg and NABU, VfL drew up an action plan. Measures already implemented include the filtering of microplastics as well as providing protection and care for a breeding colony of starlings by installing nesting boxes at the AOK Stadium (home stadium of VfL ladies) and elsewhere. A pollinator patch was also sown at the pro players training pitch, and VfL has also planted raised beds with herbs and vegetables.
Mandatory environmental training for all employees. Players do not currently have to go through the environmental training, however, they are actively involved in environmental education projects. E.g. in clean-up projects, which, with the involvement of waste experts, also have an educational character in addition to the actual litter collection. Implementation and support of workshops in schools via the extracurricular learning team.
Corporate responsibility page on the club's main website with information on climate protection and environmental initiatives. Sustainability report on the club website. Carries out action days with fans, employees and players. For example, clean-up day. Employees participate in Veganuary and bike weeks. In April 2023, players and youth players planted trees in the VfL forest (since 2014) together with fans and forest experts. In September/ October 2022, “climate matchdays” took place again at the women’s and men’s game.

Fans can use matchday tickets for public transport use four hours in advance of the game. The club incentivised bicycle use with more than 4,000 bike racks around the stadium. Around 50% of all fans are using the rail, bus or bicycle, that are incentivized in a sustainability transport strategy. Cycle to work scheme in place, including e-bikes. All football teams of the club use bus and rail as a standard means of transportation to away games. In exceptional cases the first teams take the plane to travel to the game (e.g. European away games).
It is the club’s goal to reduce single use plastic across all club sites with a waste management system for the stadium and the Geißbockheim (administration and training facilities). Since 2019, all drinks at home games have been handed out in reusable cups. The club has issued reusable lunch boxes to all employees so that there is no longer any need to resort to the disposable foam containers from the canteen.
Around 85% of waste is recycled. The rest is incinerated, and in that process, energy is generated and used again. The club’s waste management strategy applies to all club sites except for the stadium, which is owned and operated by a municipal subsidiary. The club is in close exchange with the subsidiary to reduce waste around the stadium and in-line with the stadium owner’s waste management strategy.
The waste management strategy ensures waste is constantly reduced. The club has a water management system in operation, that tracks water requirements and appropriate water quality. A water well directly at the Geißbockheim provides water for the grass pitches. Waterless urinals are used in the stadium and at the training grounds.
Reduction of water flow rates in the shower areas. A rainwater cistern was installed at the club’s boarding school. The two water storage tanks have a total volume of 30,000 liters. Rainwater is used to operate the washing machines and all toilets in the boarding school.Vegan or vegetarian food is not only offered in the stadium (both in concourse and hospitality areas), but also in the canteen (which is also a public restaurant) for staff/employees and guests every day. Vegan food is also offered at the training ground. Players are offered vegan food across all sites. More than 80% of all food and drinks offered in the stadium (both on the concourse and in all hospitality areas), as well as in all facilities, are locally sourced.
The Geißbockheim is located in the Cologne “Grüngürtel” with a rich biodiversity, that is fostered by the greenkeeping team. With projects, such as having two beehives next to the training ground, or partnerships with environmental organizations (e.g. NABU Germany) 1. FC Köln is aware of the biodiversity importance at its main location, but also along the value chain.
Workshops at the beehives are offered to young people and the FC Foundation will train sustainability ambassadors in 2023. Club staff are regularly educated in energy saving measures. Once a year, the club offers education on environmental sustainability to its players.
The club published its sustainability strategy “LEBEnachhaltig!” to the website in 2021. To draw attention to the club’s sustainability efforts, the club declared the Bundesliga home game against Arminia Bielefeld in April 2022 as an “LEBEnachhaltig!” match day.

Corporate Social Responsibility strategy “TSG is movement” can be found on the main website. A dedicated “Ecology” page on the website focuses on the club’s ecological responsibility and initiatives. Is a signatory to the UN Sports For Climate Action Framework on the Race to Zero. TSG Hoffenheim wants to achieve net zero by 2040. By 2030, the club wants to achieve a reduction of 50%
Approximately 30-50% of energy is provided from renewable sources across all sites. The solar installation on the carport generates enough electricity to cover the daily requirements of the neighbouring facilities around the PreZero Arena. Solar systems on the PreZero Arena (10,000 m2) and the training center (2,500 m2) generate approx. 1.3 million kw/h per year and save approx. 743 tons of CO2. The stadium has a pellet heating system.
Building Management Systems are used at the training centre, the headquarter as well as in the PreZero Arena. A building management system is used to switch off lights centrally. The club uses numerous meters to record and track energy consumption. Converted lights in rooms and the parking lot to LED technology. Motion detectors are used for lights in the toilet facilities.
The tickets for football matches in the PreZero Arena are also valid as public transport tickets for round trips in the Verkehrsverbund Rhein-Neckar (VRN) and the Heilbronner/Hohenloher/Haller Nahverkehrs (HNV). E-charging station at the office building.
In 2021, the club conducted a fan survey on travel, the results are as follows: – Car 64% – Public transport 28% – Walking 4% – Motorbike 2% – Bicycle 1% – Electric Car 1%. In April 2023, the club started a new mobility survey which will finish in May 2023.Internal sustainable guidelines are in place to reduce single use plastic. At the beginning of 2020, cups were switched from disposable to reusable.
All waste from all of the club’s sites is diverted from landfill. The club has advised that the PreZero Arena is the first Zero Waste certified stadium with a recycling rate of more than 85%. Grass cuttings from the PreZero Arena are used to make autograph cards. Containers are set up in many areas of the stadium in which paper, plastics and residual waste can be disposed of separately. In the future, TSG seat cushions for the stadium will be made from old reusable cups which cannot be recycled and have reached the end of their life.
Water from a rainwater cistern is used to irrigate the pitch and to flush toilets. A cistern in headquarters suppliers water to the training fields.
Vegan food options are available everywhere in the stadium. Food in the stadium is sourced regionally and seasonally as far as possible. Local providers are used wherever possible for canteen food which is offered to players and employees. Vegan/vegetarian options are available.
The club does not yet have a strategy to strengthen local biodiversity. This summer (2023), the club will look into new strategies. Since October 2019, the club offers a “climate ticket” when purchasing a ticket, which enables the buyer to book any number of tree seedlings for 1 euro each.
Training courses on recycling, environmental protection and circular economy are provided to employees. Through a combined initiative between the HOFFEXPRESS (a TSG 1899 Hoffenheim fan mobile that tours the Rhine-Neckar metropolitan region) and PreZero, a “Sustainability” project day was held at a school which covered topics such as recycling, upcycling and waste separation. A partnership with the Climate Arena in Sinsheim sees TSG’s academy teams (from U12 to U15 level) going to the Climate Arena for annual visits.
Corporate Social Responsibility strategy “TSG is movement” can be found on the main website. A dedicated Ecology page on the website focuses on the club’s ecological responsibility and initiatives. Created a series of YouTube videos titled “PreZero Nachspielzeit” with first team players Sebastian Rudy, Kevin Akpoguma, Oliver Baumann, Stefan Posch, Kevin Vogt and Christoph Baumgartner which focused on the club’s environmental sustainability efforts.

Eintracht Frankfurt has developed a holistic sustainability strategy based on the three dimensions of environment, social (social responsibility) and governance (company management), or ESG for short. This can be viewed on the website.
The association uses natural electricity from 100% wind and water power via the energy supplier Mainova AG for the entire Deutsche Bank Park, the training facilities and the newly built 'ProfiCamp', the association's office.
Eintracht Frankfurt has been BREEAM-certified since 2012. The Deutsche Bank Park is equipped with a modern and energy-efficient LED floodlight system and there are motion sensors in the underground car park. A heat exchanger with a frequency converter was installed in the ventilation of the fan shop and parts of the permanent lighting were switched to LED lamps.
Through the Eintracht Frankfurt KombiTicket, the entrance ticket for matches can be used for free travel to and from the Deutsche Bank Park using the RMV public transport network. A club survey shows that > 60% of viewers use public transport. The club's vehicle fleet was converted to hybrid and electric and the charging infrastructure at the office of the club's vehicles was expanded. There is an internal policy that team trips should take place by bus within a radius of 300 km, unless external circumstances (e.g. regeneration) make a flight unavoidable.
There has been a returnable cup deposit system in Deutsche Bank Park for several years. The new catering partner (since 2020) uses alternatives to plastic e.g. paper plates. Single-use plastics are also reduced in the office through a clean desk policy and appropriate awareness-raising measures.
The club cannot measure the exact percentage of waste that is diverted from landfill, but has advised that the vast majority is diverted.
The waste is disposed of via a waste-to-energy plant (MHKW) that generates electricity and heat from the disposed waste. All of the following basic materials are recycled: used glass, paper and cardboard, plastics, lawn and plant clippings, metal, batteries, waste oils, lubricants, light bulbs, varnish and paint. At the stadium, two large rain cisterns of 150m3 each with a usable storage volume of around 300m3 were embedded in the ground. About half of the rainwater running off the roof surfaces flows here and can thus be used for sprinkling the playing field and flushing the toilets. The unused rainwater is returned to the water cycle in a natural way through infiltration. Water saving measures were also implemented in the area of the relaxation pools.
On match days, a large number of vegetarian and vegan options are available to spectators both in the kiosks and through external service providers. This also applies to the hospitality area. In the office restaurant, vegetarian and vegan dishes are offered to employees and players every day. Stadium caterer Supreme Sports Hospitality uses products that that are as seasonal as possible and are produced regionally. For Eintracht Frankfurt’s training ground and offices, the club has another caterer “Genuss & Harmonie” who provides vegan food and lists regional suppliers and seasonal food.
Rainwater is collected in water cisterns. Unused rainwater is naturally returned to the water cycle through infiltration.
Eintracht Frankfurt enables employees to regularly participate in further training courses in the field of sustainability. The training on environmental sustainability is currently only available for the employees of the club and will be offered to the players in the future. The Eintracht Frankfurt football school focuses on the needs of society, including sustainability, and imparts knowledge and values on the topics of child support, inclusion, cancer support, sustainability, refugee support and environmental protection.
Eintracht Frankfurt has published a separate section on the subject of sustainability/ESG on the website, which reports on the ESG strategy and projects that have already been implemented in the three dimensions of environment, social and governance. Eintracht Frankfurt encourages fans to actively act responsibly, i.e. use public transport or take part in clean-up campaigns.

‘Foal Responsibility’ is a page on the club’s website which lists Borussia’s social and ecological responsibilities. A selection of environmental measures can be found on the club’s website. Borussia has set itself the goal of reducing its emissions in scopes 1 and 2 by 42 percent and in scope 3 by 25 percent by the end of the 2029/30 season. By 2050 the aim is to reduce emissions in all three scopes by 90%. The club holds a ZNU sustainability certification.
The club uses 100% green electricity in cooperation with NEW AG. Water powered electricity in use for the whole club owned venues, stadium, administration buildings, shops, museum, hotel etc. Over the course of 2023, the club will install a total of 3,800 square meters of photovoltaic areas in BORUSSIA-PARK in two phases.
At BORUSSIA-PARK, all ventilation and electrical systems come under a building management system. Two combined heat and power plants, two condensing boilers and four gas-powered air heat pumps helps Borussia to generate and consume energy with the greatest possible efficiency. In the corridors of the office, the motion detectors are equipped with external twilight switches.
A mobility concept for fan travel to home games was written as part of the club’s sustainability criteria. Of Borussia’s CO2 emissions for the 2019/20 season, fan and visitor mobility accounted for 47% of emissions. Before the 2023/24 season, a comprehensive survey of fan mobility to home games will be conducted. With a matchday ticket, fans can travel to the stadium by bus and train in the entire Verkehrsverbund Rhein-Ruhr (VRR). Employees have the option of leasing bicycles or e-bikes from the club. A so-called "decision tree" has been introduced for team travel.
Single use plastic reduction is conducted and monitored through organisational and (procedural) technical measures. Reusable cups in stadium catering at BORRUSIA-PARK. Switched to paper plates for currywurst or French fries. Season tickets and membership cards made from woodcut products.
Continuously determines and monitors the amount of waste and tries to reduce this through organisational and (procedural) technical measures. The percentage of waste diversion is unknown. Leftover baked goods are picked up again by Borussia's partner, the Kamps bakery. Within the framework of legal regulations, these are passed on to a feed company, which uses them to produce animal feed and thus find sustainable use.
Borussia sprinkles the pitches at BORUSSIA-PARK with up to 35,000,000 litres (35,000 cubic meters) of water from its own deep well on the club premises. The water seeps back onto the BORUSSIA-PARK site and is thus fed back into the groundwater cycle. At half time on match days, the 420 urinals are automatically flushed every three minutes, but only every ten minutes during the actual game. This saves around 100,000 litres of water per match day. Fittings in the wash basins have a cycle that saves water.
Vegetarian/vegan alternatives can be found throughout the stadium. Meat substitute products are now being offered for the first time in cooperation with Remagen. Food on offer in the VIP catering changes every match day, but here too meat-free alternatives are always on offer. Employees can eat vegetarian/vegan products at the “FohlenSportsbar” at the stadium including a vegan curry with broccoli, lentils, tofu and basmati rice. Borussia also relies primarily on regional providers. No catering is currently offered at the training ground.
There has been a 350 square meter flower meadow on the BORUSSIA-PARK site since 2020, which will be expanded this year at two locations by a total of 570 square meters. In 2023 part of the lawn behind the north curve will be converted into a flower meadow, which will then have a size of around 600 square meters. Plants have been introduced on roofs of the FohlenCampus and FohlenStall.
Through Ecological Experience Days, Nachwuchsleistungszentrum (NLZ) players (Academy Players) are introduced to various environment-related topics such as food waste and the correct use of ecological resources. Borussia offer activities in its Kids Club such as visiting a forester and learning about bees, to strengthen ecological understanding from an early age.
‘Foal Responsibility’ is a page on the club’s website which lists Borussia’s social and ecological responsibilities. A selection of regular environmental measures can be found on the club’s website. Borussia set up the “Climate Foals” working group some time ago, in which employees from various departments work to bundle and promote ideas relating to climate protection and sustainability.

“PLAY. CARE. SHARE” is RB Leipzig’s sustainability strategy and can be viewed on the club’s website. The strategy covers the club’s social, ecological and economical responsibility.
All of the club’s sites (Academy, Red Bull Arena and Administration) use 100% renewable energy. Approximately 10% of the total electricity consumed by RB Leipzig is generated by the photovoltaic system (71.5 kWp and 65 kWp) of the Youth Stadium and the main building of the Red Bull Arena. The design for the club’s new office includes plans for a solar power system with nearly 600 panels.
Implementation of an energy management system in accordance with ISO 50001. Switched to an LED-only lighting system. Energy-saving measures at the Red Bull Arena are; Reduced roof lighting in the stadium and carrying out a light screening (light audit) with RBL partner Signify, with the aim of switching to LED and Smart Light. Energy-saving measures in the Academy and the Office are; Reduction of the room temperature in the office buildings and cold water in the toilet areas.
Internal travel guidelines are being revised with a view to more sustainable options for business trips. Free use of public transport with the purchase of an RBL ticket (fans can travel within a 120 kilometre radius). In 2022, the club’s fleet for employees including the vehicles of its players now totals 143 vehicles. Employees can lease up to two bicycles through RB Leipzig’s ‘JobRad’ offer. Professional players travel in a MAN bus, which was judged by an international expert jury at the end of 2021 as "Sustainable Coach of the Year 2022".
RB Leipzig has a policy to reduce the single-use plastic in the club, on a case-by-case basis. All packaging and items in public catering (e.B. coffee cups, straws, forks) are made of recycled material (all biodegradable). In the VIP area of the Red Bull Arena, the club’s caterer has increased the share of reusable cups and cutlery and reduced the use of single-use packaging and now uses more biodegradable products. Cups for hot drinks made of recycled and biodegradable material.
Waste separation at the Red Bull Arena is currently on the agenda for RB Leipzig. In 2022, replaced all fold-down stadium seats under the name “SEATainability”. The old seats were either repurposed or recycled, while the steel frames were kept in place. Waste is separated into plastic, paper and residual waste. If there are high merchandising stocks at the end of the season, the club donates them to charitable organisations. Food waste that can no longer be consumed after each match day is recycled via the club’s official supplier PreZero.
Waterless urinals have been installed in the washroom facilities across the entirety of the stadium. During the conversion of the stadium, the club was able to implement numerous measures that lead to significant water savings, such as: waterless urinals, water-saving taps with sensors, flow limiters, aerators in the showers.
Vegan, vegetarian and sustainable food are available to fans and employees at all RB Leipzig locations. Through ‘Veganz’, the club has been offering vegan products in the Red Bull Arena since 2021 e.g. vegan bratwurst. A local caterer is used for hospitality catering which includes vegetarian and vegan foods. In 2022, a meat-free diet was also increasingly introduced in the staff canteen "Cottaria".
A ‘sporty diet’ for employees which is offered by an external local caterer also includes vegetarian and vegan dishes. Vegetarian and vegan food options for players. The club uses a selection of regional partners and service providers. No information provided.
In 2022, RB Leipzig developed two formats that anchor the topic of sustainability in the club and provide its employees with relevant knowledge. These were called "Crunchtime Sustainability" and the "Ambassador Program".
RB Leipzig’s sustainability strategy can be viewed on the club’s website. A page dedicated to the ecological efforts of RB Leipzig can be viewed on the club’s website. ‘05ER Climate Defender’ is FSV's commitment to climate protection and can be viewed on the website. Mainz 05 is developing a sustainability strategy that deals with clear commitments to reduction. It plans to use the Science Based Target initiative (SBTI) as a guide in the future, to adhere to the reduction path.
Uses 100% renewable energy through their partnership with energy supplier Entega. The stadium, office, fan shop and catering are all operated with green electricity. One of the three largest solar roof systems for football stadiums in Germany was built on the roof of the OPEL ARENA, which generates around 700,000 kWh of electricity annually and feeds it into the public power grid.
Mainz 05 was the first Bundesliga club to receive the DIN EN ISO 50001 energy certificate from TÜV Rheinland in 2016. An energy management system is used to identify and increase energy-saving potentials. Building control technology (GLT), with the help of which the technical systems can be controlled and regulated very efficiently and effectively. Time programs, presence detectors and modern systems play an essential role at the MEWA Arena. Luminaires are replaced annually in order to use only LED technology in the long term.
The ticket to the home games in the OPEL ARENA is valid as a combined ticket for arrival and departure in the Rhein-Main-Verkehrsverbund (RMV) and Rhein-Nahe-Nahverkehrsverbund (RNN). Conducted a fan travel survey in 2020 which asked fans of their mode of transport when travelling to games. Around 50 percent of the spectators use public transport to travel. The most recent fan mobility survey took place in October 2022 and was tracked by the city of Mainz’s department for urban planning and management. The results have yet to be published.
Has completely switched to reusable cups for both cold and hot drinks. The cups are subject to a deposit, cleaned and put back into circulation.
Mainz 05 diverts at least 95% of waste from landfill. The residual waste is sent to the waste incineration plant.
Waterless urinals installed in the grandstand at the stadium. A urinal flush control system has been implemented in all other locations (magnetic control) to reduce water consumption. Technical adjustments to the water supply made it possible to significantly reduce the amount of water used for irrigation.
Vegan options are not yet sustainably sourced, but this is a work in progress.
The "biotope" is located directly next to the MEWA ARENA. This natural green area maintained by Mainz 05 is the location for bee colonies that produce Arena honey, which is sold in the fan shop. Mainz 05 supports and finances a large-scale reforestation in the city forest near the stadium (2000 seedlings, already transplanted in March 2023). Unused areas around the stadium will be unsealed and planted.
Green roofs are added where possible. At the MEWA ARENA, trees, shrubs and flower meadows are planted and preserved to provide nesting opportunities and food. With the 05ER classroom, Mainz 05 teaches students of 30 partner schools topics with particular relevance in a playful way. For example, actions take place regularly as part of the "Fairplay with the Environment" module which sees children and young people calculate their personal carbon footprint and discuss potential for improvement. Children can also learn about waste separation, waste prevention and upcycling during workshops.
05ER Climate Defender’ is FSV's commitment to climate protection and can be viewed on the website. Mainz 05 is working on a long-term CSR strategy. The club has published news articles regarding its climate engagement activities over the past 12 months. As part of its 05ER Climate Defender Week, FSV Mainz 05 used the Warming Stripes symbol for the first time, to draw attention to global warming since its association was founded in 1905 and to call for the necessary action.

SC Freiburg developed a sustainability strategy in 2022. Through the exchange with different dialogue groups and all departments of the association, a holistic sustainability strategy was developed by the cross-departmental sustainability project team. Since 2015, the club has bundled its sustainability commitment under the motto "SC Freiburg - more than football". The commitment covers education, movement, environment and solidarity.
All of the club's locations are supplied with 100% green electricity from renewable sources. In July 2022, the new solar roof on the club’s Europa-Park stadium was inaugurated with SC partner badenova. The club's offices are in the stadium and thus the solar energy generated is also used directly for the needs of the offices. Dreisamstadion (home to the club’s women’s team SC Frauen I): Photovoltaic systems with a total area of 2200 square meters, which generates an electricity yield of around 335,000 kWh per year.
SC Freiburg uses infrastructure measures and guidelines to actively conserve resources. A digitized building management system in Europa Park Stadium and Dreisamstadion helps to ensure sustainable operation and careful use of resources. Numerous measures at all three SC locations. These include switching to LED lighting or the purchase of energy-efficient refrigerators and optimizing the floodlights.
On the day of validity, the admission ticket entitles you to free travel to and from the stadium by public transport 3 hours before the start of the game. SC Freiburg recorded the means of transport for the fan trip for the 2021/2022 season in a scientifically supported mobility analysis.
A defined field of action in the clubs sustainability strategy is the reduction of waste and the associated reduction of plastic. Reusable cup system in the public areas of the stadium and in hospitality catering.
SC Freiburg has a waste concept for the systematic handling and consistent reduction of waste. Waste is collected and separated at all locations (plastic, paper, glass, green waste, organic waste and food leftovers, residual waste) including the rental of a paper press. The systematic separation of waste leads to the disposal or reuse of the resulting waste.
The association’s environmental strategy mentions sustainable resource management. To increase efficiency, waterless urinals and water-saving fittings are installed in the Europa Park Stadium and Dreisamstadion. In the Dreisamstadion, a deep well and waterless urinals improve the efficient use of water.
Vegan options at stadium including vegan Bratwurst and Knöpfle with Sauerkraut. SC Freiburg cooperates with many small suppliers for its food and drink offerings in the stadium, who work in an environmentally friendly way thanks to short journeys and predominantly regional products.
SC Freiburg and the WWF entered into a multi-year partnership in 2018, with a focus on the UNESCO Black Forest biosphere area, by preserving nature and landscape and at the same time increase regional value creation. At the beginning of September 2020, a wilderness experience trail on the edge of the Bannwald at the foot of the Feldberg was officially opened. Since the 2013/14 season, SC Freiburg partner badenova has planted a tree in the region for every goal scored by SC Freiburg.
SC Freiburg and WWF’s wilderness experience trail has 14 interactive stations that are intended to bring young and explorers closer to the local forests.
The club’s sustainability commitment comes under the motto "SC Freiburg - more than football". The commitment covers education, movement, environment and solidarity and can be viewed on the website. SC Freiburg has a dedicated page on the website which shows the club’s commitment to the environment.
