- Energy and Carbon Strategy Development Project
- Launch of Leicester City in the Community (LCitC) EcoFoxes Environmental Sustainability strategy in May 2022. This new core theme runs through all our projects
- LCitC have a robust Environmental Policy regularly updated twenty-target Action Plan, both approved by the Premier League. The Environmental Policy is publically accesible on our website’s homepage: https://www.lcfc.com/community
- LCitC have undertaken an internal sustainability audit to identify and address areas of needed improvement. This coincided with an LCitC staff ‘carbon footprint’ calculation, which will be repeated in March 2023 to assess behaviour changes and impacts
- LCitC have joined as members of the UN’s ‘Football For The Goals’ initiative to share best practice for sustainability within the football industry, and attended a meeting in November 2022 to discuss a new sustainability partnership across Leicester: https://www.un.org/en/footballforthegoals/members
- The LCitC Environmental Sustainability Coordinator is on the Leicestershire Waterways Partnership and the Leicestershire Walking Forum to discuss areas of local collaboration for active transport, improving biodiversity and engagement with nature
- Leicester City in the Community (LCitC) have an environmental strategy, have undertaken an internal audit and staff carbon footprinting, but it does not extend to Leicester City Football Club, only the Community Organisation
Clean/Renewable Energy
- 100 percent renewable energy supplied to all LCFC sites (verified by Sport Positive)
- Club is investigating implementation of large scale Solar PV and other clean energy sources as well as battery storage as part of the larger development of the King Power Stadiu
Energy Efficiency
- Centrally controlled Building Management System enabling us to monitor energy usage and implement changes to increase efficiency where possible, covers stadia/ academy/staff offices/retail store
- ESOS Stage 2 is ongoing with the results being reported annually in the Clubs financial statements. The Club’s CO2 usage is independently measured as part of this process
- LED lighting throughout the new training ground including floodlighting on pitches
- LED lighting and software for full control with PIR occupancy detection in rooms and circulation corridors at Training Ground
- Training Ground has centrally controlled Building Management System enabling us to monitor energy usage and implement changes to increase efficiency where possible
- Heat recovery system built into the buildings heating and ventilation system at Training Ground
- All lighting replaced with LED or low energy lighting
- Flood lights now based on LED
Sustainable Transport
- Bus, train and park and ride options advocated
- Club Promotes travel by public transport and by cycle and on foot
- Extensive travel plan completed as part of the planning application process for the expansion of King Power Stadium
- LCitC staff car-sharing when travelling to sessions and meetings around the city. Some staff members also cycling where possible

Single Use Plastic Reduction/Removal
- Single use plastic cups removed from use by LCitC and replaced by reusable and recyclable polypropylene cups for use by our staff and participants
- Reusable water bottles issued to participants in the LCitC programmes

Waste Management
- Zero waste to landfill. All waste is recycled or used in the production of energy from waste (EfW)
- Reycling includes Single Stream Glass collection, Single Stream Food collection, Single Stream Cardboard Collection, Dry Mixed Recyclables
- EfW from General/Residual waste
- LCitC have partnered with Utilita Football Rebooted to collect previously worn football boots from people in Leicester and redistribute to people in the community that need them. This is to avoid them being sent to landfill and assist with the cost-of-living crisis for low-income families and people without easy access to football boots. 10 pairs recently redistributed to a local sports ground that hosts a refugee football programme we support on: https://www.lcfc.com/news/2963550/make-a-difference-by-donating-unwanted-winter-clothing–boots

Water Efficiency
- The stadium pitch at LCFC has recovered and resued 8 million litres of water from its pitch irrigation system. The club installed a sub surface water reclamation system along the track on the west stand, which to date (in 18 monts) has saw us reused 12,760 m3 extracting only 671m3 from the mains. we are now working on proposals to replicate this at Seagrave (Training Ground), subject to approvals

Plant based/low carbon food
- Last year we supplied the kitchen at Seagrave (Training Ground) with around 10% of its total organic, grown on site produce. Including apples, carrots, green beans, potatoes, chard and parsnips
- A ‘sustainable food’ guide has been produced for all LCitC staff with guidance on the impacts of agriculture and animal-based food, with information on useful alternatives that they can use with participants in our programmes
- Our menus are extensive across all properties and include vegan / plant-based options at all sittings for players and staff with food options such as vegan moussaka, brazilian black bean stew and vegetable enchiladas

Biodiversity
- Biodiversity has increased across Seagrave (Training Ground) with newts continuing to breed and occupy our wildlife ponds and hibernaculums
- We have increased or enhanced our on site bug hotels / habitats to encourage greater biodiversity
- We have undertaken our own in house enhancements installing Beehives, log hotels and biodiversity corridors from branches in our wooded areas
- The stadium has also worked closely on some biodiversity projects with local schools and our players
- Hundreds of trees planted over the past year by the LCitC Forest Foxes participants in areas around Leicestershire, with support from the National Forest Company. One event was joined by LCFC players in celebration of National Tree Week in November 2022: https://youtu.be/8c0CICPRilM
- There is currently work taking place in the ‘ecological area’ around King Power Stadium with LCitC participants and the Leicester City Council Environmental Volunteers to improve the habitat quality of the area, including the removal of hazardous or diseased trees, creating of new habitat piles and dead-hedges and the addition of new hedgehog houses, bird boxes and insect homes
- LCitC officially adopted the section of the River Soar / Grand Union Canal outside of King Power Stadium in May 2022 to help bring participants to engage with the blue spaces around the stadium. Education
- LCitC have hosted expert speakers to talk to our staff on different sustainability themes. These have included Natural England, Leicester City Council Sustainable Transport, and the Forest School Association
- Our Forest Foxes programme continues to provide Outdoor Learning opportunities to schools, nurseries and now community groups across Leicestershire and Rutland every week. These include trips to woodland spaces to teach about the importance of nature and the impacts of climate change
- Delivering the LEGO Discover programme weekly to early years classes in schools with the theme of renewable energy
- We are currently arranging to have ‘carbon literacy’ training made available for all LCitC staff in a partnership with DeMontford University
- ‘Green’ collapsed curriculum days provided to schools to cover sustainability topics with engaging activities
- The Premier League’s ‘Protect the Planet’ projct has been actively delivered to our Primary Stars, Inspires and Kicks programmes with an emphasis on providing opportunities for youth-led social action
Communication and Engagement
- ‘Green Action Month’ hosted in May 2022 to raise awareness of our EcoFoxes strategy and provide rewards for staff and community members taking part in environentally sustainability challenges
