CLEAN/RENEWABLE ENERGY

- Looking to switch to sustainable energy suppliers when current energy provider agreement expires
- Note: Chelsea FC used 1887 tonnes of CO2 less last year (2018) compared to previous years
ENERGY EFFICIENCY
- Training facility meets ‘excellent’ BREEAM standard, building energy management system in place
- LED lighting with proximity sensors managed centrally, waste heat is reutilised (heat recovery coils)
- Increased the use of LED lighting and used 10% less gas last year (2018) due to optimising the systems on site
SUSTAINABLE TRANSPORT
- London Underground, train, buses, cycling and river boat advocated
- Bicycle storage area available for supporters wishing to cycle to the stadium
- Supporters are strongly advised not to drive to Stadium.
SINGLE USE PLASTIC REDUCTION/REMOVAL
- Worked with Sky and Premier League on the plastic reduction via reusable beer cups preventing 250,000 plastic single use cups going in to the waste system
- Working with suppliers and partners on reducing plastic waste
- Biodegradable plastic bags
WASTE MANAGEMENT
- 100% of waste is recycled at Stamford Bridge and Cobham (2010)
- About to launch new waste management system that will separate waste at source and minimise general waste that will be sent to the waste to energy plant
WATER USE
- Rainwater collected in reservoir at Cobham training ground, smart flush toilets
- Continue to look for better ways to reduce water usage across both Cobham and Stamford Bridge
PLANT BASED/LOW CARBON FOOD
- New menus include an increased number of vegan, vegetarian and healthy options
- CFC work with catering partner to ensure that where possible seasonal ingredients are sourced from regional and UK providers
- All menus include plant based options including a vegan menu that is offered across the stadium on match days
COMMUNICATION/ENGAGEMENT
- No sustainability or environment page but some information available on club’s news articles
- Sustainability document (and partner documents) containing this information are available to existing and potential club partners, clients and staff.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
- Chelsea Football Club has a Sustainability group which is comprised of colleagues from all areas of the business with the goal of working together to identify areas where the club can reduce impact on the environment and reduce carbon emissions through collaborative working
